These are my top 5 books from this year that I enjoyed and would recommend to others, some spiritual in nature some not; because there are always pearls of wisdom to be found in any source if we are simply willing to see them.

The Fifth Mountain by Paulo

Coelho

A story of the prophet Elijah when he is forced to flee Israel. It follows the story of his own struggles and turmoil as he finds and loses love, finds resilience through tragedy, learns from disappointments, and questions himself and his faith in order to build a stronger relationship with God.

In true Paul Coelho style, the writing style is simple but captivating, and still offers much in wisdom and reflection.

The Game of Life and How To Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn

I first came across this book an audiobook. It’s a great read or listen with many examples of how this practitioner is able to speak and manifest for others.

She takes the reader through the methods of manifesting through the spoken word, what works and what doesn’t when manifesting, what obstacles we may face and how to move past them.

The examples she gives of clients she has worked with are fascinating and show the possibilities that are available to us if we are only willing to try, speak for what we want and are willing to trust that spirit is doing it’s part.

Tracks by Robyn Davidson

It’s a tale of courage, determination and self exploration in outback Australia.

Robyn tells the story of her 2700kms trek from Alice Springs, across the desert to the coast of Carnarvon in Western Australia. Just her, four camels and her dog Diggity. Rich imagery paints the landscape, her interactions with Indigenous communities, and her love of the outback.

It’s an amazing journey of self reflection and how isolation can be rewarding.

Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger

A brilliant story of man and the sea. It’s a journalistic approach to the storm of October 1991 that took the lives of the men aboard the sword fishing boat Andrea Gail, and rescuers sent out into the maelstrom.

It’s a fascinating account of what developed the fishing industry and how it’s evolved, with accounts from fishermen when fishing and in bad weather. It explains the convergence of a hurricane and storm that became the perfect storm, and the vessels and rescuers caught in its grip.

There’s a great deal of knowledge and understanding of all the factors that contributed to both the storm and the loss of the Andrea Gail and lives. Where possible Sebastian used a blend of first hand accounts and similar events that might explain them in its place.

Energy Healing for Trauma, Stress and Chronic Illness by Cyndi Dale

I’ll admit I’ve yet to finish this one but 2024 isn’t here yet!

Cyndi Dale has years of experience as an energy healer and working with subtle energies. She has a number of books and this contains methods she has developed to deal with life’s challenges caused by physical, psychological, electronics environmental and spiritual influences.

Her book contains a wealth of information and stories from clients she has worked with   It’s a fantastic learning tool and reference guide.
